Do you have a child in grades 5 through 8 who would be interested in Junior Knowledge Bowl this fall? The tentative plan is to have practice two days per week, after school (3-4 p.m.), we would have practice each day so students can stay after school on their A or B day. The program cost would be $50 per student and would run from the week of October 19 through early December. All meets would be virtual, so there would not be travel involved. The meet schedule has not been completed yet. If you have a child interested, please email me with their name and grade, so we can see if there is enough interest to offer this program. Thank you, Stacey Austing-Jacobson, Community Education Director staceyaj@isd740.org

Fall Sports 2020-2021 Dear Parents and Students, THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING!!! We are pleased to have the opportunity to participate in some fall activities this year. While football, musical, cheerleading and volleyball will not be available in the fall, we hope our students can find a way to be involved in co-curricular activities. Melrose Area Public Schools will be offering Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Tennis, Boys and Girls Cross Country, and Girls Swimming and Diving as options for the fall of 2020-2021 season. More information about practices for Football, Volleyball, and Spring 2020 sports will be shared as it becomes available. We are excited to begin using a new program called Affinety for registration for our fall activities. With Affinety, all the forms are completed online, which means you will be able to fill out the forms and submit them electronically, including fees. Please register at https://melrose1550a.cf.affinetysolutions.com/. Families will need to create an account, using Student ID# (found in the parent portal at Parent Vue) and Student date of birth. There is a link to registration instructions online. These forms and fees still need to be completed before a student’s first practice. All student athletes need to have a copy of their physical on file in the Activities Office. Sports physicals expire after three years. It is recommended that students going into grades 7 and 10 get a physical. Physicals can be uploaded by email (send to hberscheit@isd740.org) or fax (320-256-4639). All current information is posted at mshsl.org. Please let us know if there are questions or concerns.

Melrose Elementary School families, I hope this message finds you doing well in light of everything. You are missed by all of our staff, and nothing takes the place of having the students in our building. Today I just wanted to send a reminder about school work, specifically what is given out by our Music, Art, Media Center, Physical Education, and Computer teachers. These are items that we are asking students to complete just like the work from your classroom teacher. These assignments are part of the grading process for 4th quarter, which is taking place through Distance Learning. These teachers have given instructions on how to submit the work through SeeSaw, Canvas, or email. If you have any questions, please contact the specialist teacher directly. Thank you, and stay safe and healthy. Mr. Conrad Elementary Principal

Teresa Schad 3rd year as Assistant Speech Coach I just love watching the confidence grow throughout the season with each speaker. Speech teaches lifelong tools to help students with public speaking, creative writing, and dealing with adversity with subjective judges. They learn that supporting others is a key component to having a championship team. Every speaker makes a difference and is truly valued and important to our success! Plus - an amazing coaching staff is an added bonus!

Jesse Kuechle I have coached for over 20 years. Softball, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Trap Shooting My favorite part of coaching is watching kids succeed and helping each other be part of something greater than themselves. Having coached at so many different levels gives me an appreciation of the time it takes to develop and foster a skill.

Mikayla Curry 1. This is my 5th year as head coach in Melrose, after 4 years in Morris 2. Speech 3. My favorite part of coaching is seeing the tremendous growth in our speakers from the beginning of the season to the end. Even better? Watching their growth from Jr. High to Sr. High. I am lucky to work with kids who willingly give up their Saturdays to hop on a bus in the wee hours of the morning to go speak and fellow coaches who are crazy enough to do the same.

Katie Masog Coached: 15 years (11 Head Coach) of High School Gymnastics Sports: Gymnastics (Elementary, Rising Stars and High School). Also have coached JO Volleyball and Youth Softball. Favorite Part: My favorite part of coaching is helping gymnasts grow as a gymnast and as a person! Teaching lifelong lessons that will help them in and out of the gym. Helping them believe that the sky is the limit, and with enough determination and dedication, anything is possible. Also watching the excitement when hitting a new skill is priceless! Also, my coaching staff and gymnasts. We all share the LOVE for the sport of gymnastics, and that in itself makes us want to be in the gym everyday!

Evan Reller This is my 6th year coaching high school basketball, my third for Melrose Area. I have also coached middle school football for 6 years as well. My favorite part about coaching athletics is helping the athletes grow in their understanding of the sport, but also seeing their growth as people. It is fun for me to see some of the girls who were in middle school when I started coaching here, now be apart of our varsity team and the growth that has come over that time period!
