Do you have a child in grades 5 through 8 who would be interested in Junior Knowledge Bowl this fall?
The tentative plan is to have practice two days per week, after school (3-4 p.m.), we would have practice each day so students can stay after school on their A or B day. The program cost would be $50 per student and would run from the week of October 19 through early December.
All meets would be virtual, so there would not be travel involved. The meet schedule has not been completed yet.
If you have a child interested, please email me with their name and grade, so we can see if there is enough interest to offer this program.
Thank you, Stacey Austing-Jacobson, Community Education Director

Sr. Conrad
Director de la Primaria

Melrose Elementary School families,
I hope this message finds you doing well in light of everything. You are missed by all of our staff, and nothing takes the place of having the students in our building. Today I just wanted to send a reminder about school work, specifically what is given out by our Music, Art, Media Center, Physical Education, and Computer teachers. These are items that we are asking students to complete just like the work from your classroom teacher. These assignments are part of the grading process for 4th quarter, which is taking place through Distance Learning. These teachers have given instructions on how to submit the work through SeeSaw, Canvas, or email. If you have any questions, please contact the specialist teacher directly. Thank you, and stay safe and healthy.
Mr. Conrad
Elementary Principal

In accordance with our commitment to the Federal Communications Commission’s Keep America Connected Pledge, we are offering the Arvig Education Assistance Program for families with a student in the K-12 system or for college students, to receive free internet service so their education can continue via e-learning methodologies in the event schools remain closed as a result of COVID-19. A few things to note:
This program is available to families who live in the Arvig service area and currently do not have any internet service at their residence
Any internet speed available will be offered free-of-charge, including wi-fi service if needed
To qualify for free service, they must be a new customer, have no bad debt with Arvig and sign up for paperless statements
The service will remain free until the 2019/2020 school year concludes unless they call to disconnect their service and return equipment
Unfortunately, if we are unable to deliver 5 Mbps speed to their residence, we won’t be able to offer them this program
We will prioritize service installations for low-income families. Verification of need may be provided via a conference call with the school
If you know of a family who does not have internet service right now who may qualify for the Arvig Education Assistance Program, please encourage them to:
Contact our Customer Care team either online at arvigbusiness.com using our online chat or by calling 888.992.7844
When they mention they are interested in the Arvig Education Assistance Program, the Customer Care Representative will walk them through the steps to determine if they qualify and if so, set them up for installation

1. and 2. I've been a choreographer for the Musical for 10 years, and coached varsity Track for 3 years.
3. I love the opportunity to get to work with students and athletes and help them to learn something new, or reach their goal. It's also wonderful to see the bonds they make with each other and how they support one another as they work towards a common goal.

Caitlyn Mayo
1) I have coached at Melrose Area Schools for 8 years.
2) I am currently the head coach for the Rosettes Dance Team and the Melrose Football Cheerleaders.
3) My favorite part of coaching is seeing how hard work, high expectations, and consistency motivates student-athletes to be the best versions of themselves.

Teresa Schad
3rd year as Assistant Speech Coach
I just love watching the confidence grow throughout the season with each speaker. Speech teaches lifelong tools to help students with public speaking, creative writing, and dealing with adversity with subjective judges. They learn that supporting others is a key component to having a championship team. Every speaker makes a difference and is truly valued and important to our success! Plus - an amazing coaching staff is an added bonus!

Bill Leraas

This will be my 9th season coaching Fastpitch Softball for Melrose Area Schools.
Last summer, I had the privilege to be asked to help coach the Freeport youth fastpitch program.
My favorite part about coaching is sharing the passion for the game of softball with these girls, and watching them grow as an athlete-- and as a person throughout their softball and high school career.

This is my 6th year coaching high school basketball, my third for Melrose Area. I have also coached middle school football for 6 years as well. My favorite part about coaching athletics is helping the athletes grow in their understanding of the sport, but also seeing their growth as people. It is fun for me to see some of the girls who were in middle school when I started coaching here, now be apart of our varsity team and the growth that has come over that time period!

Being with the players and coaches helping them on and off the court and becoming a role model for them. Have a saying I use #1Team1Family. Treat every player as a part of my family through the highs and the lows! The most rewarding thing though is seeing how our players grow after school and use values we have implemented to become the men, dads, and role models in their own lives.
