Melrose Knowledge Bowl dominated at Region 7 Finals!
Region Finals were held yesterday, March 10th, at SCSU. There are three classes, determined by high school population: A, AA, and AAA. This year, Melrose is competed in Class A.
However, at the Region Finals, all three classes compete together and the winners from each Class are divided out at the end. The top finisher in each Class plus the next two highest scores, advance to the state tournament.
At yesterday's meet, Melrose started the day with a test score of 50/60. This was the highest score of the day with scores ranging from 36-50. Starting in room one for the oral rounds, Melrose never looked back. They won all five oral round competitions facing all AA or AAA schools.

1st Place - Class A Melrose with 126.5.
2nd Place - Class AAA Elk River with 113.5.
3rd Place - Class AAA Sartell with 107.5.
4th Place - Class AA St. John's Prep with 104.5.
5th Place - Class 2AA Albany.
These top five schools are State Bound.
Litchfield finished in eighth as the second place Class A school with 95.5.
This will be the Dutchmen's ninth trip to the state tournament since 1986. However this is their sixth consecutive trip, earning state titles in 2023 and 2025.

Coach Leraas and Coach Hoyt feel privileged to work with these awesome students, most of them since fifth grade. If you see any of the students, wish them "Good Luck" at the State Tournament held at Cragun's in April.

Go Dutchmen!

🤖⚙️Introducing the Gear Grinders! ⚙️🤖

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our very first FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team — the Gear Grinders!

This new Melrose Team is part of the internationally recognized FIRST Robotics Competition, where they design, build, and program industrial-sized robots — all while learning hands-on STEM skills, teamwork, leadership, and real-world problem solving.

This is more than building robots. It’s about:
🔧 Learning hands-on engineering skills
💻 Exploring coding and design
🤝 Building teamwork and leadership
🎤 Developing communication and presentation skills
🚀 Preparing for college and future careers

We are incredibly proud of these students for stepping up to start something new and exciting for our school and community. The future is bright — and it’s powered by innovation!

Our team has learned so much so far and the Gear Grinders have one more competition left — wish them the best of luck as they take on their final challenge!

Check out the team and their robot in action here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61587628704449
