It is with great sorrow that I share that we lost one of our employees. Aaron Schmitz, our district Food Service Director, passed away earlier this week.
Aaron and I started at the same time at the school. Although he was hired right before I came on board, we developed a great working relationship within the first couple of weeks. With his experience in the food service industry and his connections within the community, I knew we were in good hands.
What didn’t Aaron do for the district? He did anything and everything to support the students of the district. He was either at events supporting his own children or at events supporting other students in any way he could. He knew just about every student and always had a greeting or a smile to share. His smile and positivity was infectious. I always left a conversation or interaction with Aaron feeling just a little bit better than before.
Although Aaron was the Food Service Director, he was always on the front lines. Every morning he would be handing out milk to the elementary students with a greeting and fist bump. Usually at lunch he would be working the a la carte line in the high school. He took care of business behind the scenes but was always there for the students and his staff.
Our condolences go out to his wife Kim and his children. He was a committed community member that was part of many organizations within the community of Melrose. In life, you can be so grateful to have known a person with the attributes of Aaron Schmitz.

Congratulations to 7th Graders Ella Klaphake & Avery Braegelmann on being the first ever members of the 10,000 shot club. These girls have put in a ton of time improving their game in the off-season, with Ella making over 10,000 shots, and Avery making over 25,000! Hopefully, more girls will follow their lead in the upcoming years! We are very lucky to have both of these committed athletes in our programs.

On a cold February day, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our bus drivers.
They do an outstanding job in safely transporting our students even on these coldest days to school in the morning and returning them to their homes at the end of the day.
Having driven a school bus in my first years of teaching, I understand the important role they play in our schools.
On behalf of Melrose Area Public Schools and our communities, thanks again to all of our bus drivers!
