Attention Dutchmen Baseball Fans: We have been advised by law enforcement that all parking for the Varsity and JV Baseball Games needs to be in our parking lots; NOT on County Road 168. We ask that all fans and spectators use the Baseball parking lot or the school parking lot, by the tennis courts. If parking at the school, please use the new sidewalk to arrive at the baseball fields. Thank you!

Melrose Area Third Graders had the opportunity to spend a few days learning from a resident expert from the Como Zoo. Students learned about different jobs at the zoo, as well as the rainforest, including animals, trees, and what products come from them. Students also learned about enrichment and how animals need to have things that challenge and stimulate their brains. Students learned about penguins, and created enrichment items that were taken back to the Como Zoo to be used by the penguins. All of the projects were so much fun, but most importantly they taught us about science, math, problem solving, and teamwork! Here's a video of the penguins trying out some of our enrichment projects: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UCkCGOUn8CT2VY2Dk9z2fYoeYE0viuoy/view?usp=sharing

Today is World Penguin Day. Fun Facts: *The lifespan of a penguin is typically 15 to 20 years. *Penguins have excellent vision, allowing them to see clearly in and out of water. Penguins, like humans, have binocular vision, which allows them to focus on a single object with both eyes. *Penguins can't fly, but they can swim up to 15 mph. *Penguins use their black and white bodies to cover up themselves. The black patterns protect them from predators outside the water, and the white white markings make them nearly invisible within the water. *Penguins can weigh anywhere from 2 to 88 pounds (0.9 kg to 40 kg). *Penguins utilize innovative techniques to move faster.
